When your AC acts up, a methodical walkthrough often finds the cause — and sometimes the fix — before you need a technician.
Start with the simple stuff
Check the thermostat mode and batteries, replace the air filter, and confirm the breaker has not tripped. Then look at the outdoor unit: is it running, and is it clear of debris and plants?
Read the symptom
No cooling at all points to power, thermostat, or compressor issues. Weak airflow points to filters, ducts, or the blower. A frozen coil points to airflow restriction or low refrigerant. Water around the indoor unit points to a clogged condensate drain.
Know your limits
Refrigerant, electrical, and compressor work require a licensed technician and tools. If the basics do not solve it, calling early prevents a small issue from becoming a big one.
